Patron Saints of Liars
In 1992, Ann Patchett launched a remarkable career with the publication of her debut novel, The Patron Saint of Liars. I am not much of a reader and have not read this work by the celebrated novelist but I love the title. On a blog about lies and those who tell them, I imagine there must be many saints wasting time trying to redeem groups (e.g., playful old guys, self-absorbed sports talkers) of liars.
Old Guys Love To Lie

Not half as funny as I think
Sports Talk Blusterers
I think fans are excited by the things he makes exciting.

Let him see things on the field before they happen.

Like I eliquated yesterday…
He’s got a freakish arm, tree-trunk thighs, and ability to make all the throws.
You can feel the nervous energy in this building.
I’ll be honest with you.
Get on the ride or get off.
He has been making plays off script for his whole career.
He draws a certain amount of gravity when he’s in the game, hurt or not.
Seldom the first score but always the final score that wins.
Ledge end.
Blatant pandering. …that’s an interesting question…that’s a great question…that’s an awesome question…great stuff my guy
Final questions my guy.
That’s a fantastic question.
Fantastic guy.
Always good with his time.
We have two starter-caliber players whether they start or not.
